Adherence to NARR StandardsAll affiliates and providers must commit to upholding the rigorous NARR quality standards, ensuring safe, ethical, and effective environments for recovery. They go by different names (Oxford House ™, sober home, sober living, halfway house, etc.), and their history can be traced back to the mid-1800s1. All recovery homes are founded on social model recovery, but beyond that, they can differ in the type and intensity of services they provide and can differ in their staffing or governance.

Building Quality Recovery Housing
If you feel a residence is not meeting the quality standards required by its designation with the Indiana Division of Mental Health and Addiction, it is your right to voice that concern. To perform the virtual/on-site interview/inspection the recovery residence setting needs to have been in operation with residents for at least 30 days and have at least 40% occupancy. The National Alliance for Recovery Residences (NARR) has established national best practice standards and a certification program, which owner-operators can use as a roadmap (see NARRonline.org).
